YBL MIKLÓS FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE AND CIVIL ENGINEERING

HISTORY

The predecessor of our institution was established in 1879 as a technical school. Since then it has been training students for a variety of professions within the construction industry. Between 1997 and 2005 the following 3-year courses were accredited by the committee of the Ministry of Education:

  • architecture,
  • civil engineering,
  • urban planning,
  • construction management and
  • fire-safety engineering.

On 1st January 2000 we merged with five higher educational institutions:

  • University of Veterinarian Sciences, Budapest,
  • University of Agriculture, Gödöllő,
  • University of Horticulture and Food Industry, Budapest,
  • Teacher's Training College, Jászberény and
  • College of  Agriculture, Gyöngyös

under the name of Szent István University. The increase in the number of students required new techniques in administration: in 2002 we introduced the ECTS compatible credit system and a new online student registration system.

Our master course „Design Architect” has been launched in February 2012.

Foreign relations

Relying on our traditionally good connections with similar European higher educational institutions, from the 1990's we had been successfully participating in EU and regional programs like TEMPUS, FEFA, CEEPUS, Socrates-Erasmus. With the help of these projects we could develop our technical background and curricula and establish the frame of regular student and staff exchange.

Language

We offer a wide range of courses for part-time exchange students of Architecture and Civil Engineering in English. Our master course „Design Architect” will expectedly start at the academic year 2018/19 also in English as a full-time degree-program.
For improving the language skills, incoming students can join the general, technical and conversation lessons of English and German.
